From spare designs with simple clean lines to more ornate pieces featuring handcarved details, Skip’s furniture reflects the styles and tastes of his individual clients. His personal design perspective is influenced both by his New England roots and his Western lifestyle.
He draws from a varied pallet of woods: maple, oak, mahogany, cherry, walnut, mesquite, pine and cedar, as well as more exotic woods such as paduak, koa and ebony. Many pieces feature original design elements: elk-skin upholstery, woven leather buttons, hand-forged iron hinges and pulls, antler buttons, original carvings, inlaid woods and the like.
Each step is carefully crafted: material selected and cut, woods laminated, components roughed out, decorative elements hand-carved, pieces individually matched and assembled, joints painstakingly fitted, individual sections glued and clamped, and the final piece hand smoothed and rubbed to a finished polish.
